Decking the Halls

Santa and the Tiny Reindeer

The Christmas Spirit blew thru my home like a hurricane this past weekend.  There were boxes and boxes of ornaments, lights and decorations galore scattered all through the halls and stacked as high as the eyes could see.  At one point I was certain that I had lost my little pup but soon found her nestled all snug in her bed with visions of snowmen filling her head!  Or maybe it was a vision of a snowman that had fallen in her bed...but whatever, she was all snuggled in with the snowman covering her head!

I sat in the middle of my living room floor staring at my abundance of boxes and wondering when I had accumulated so much Christmas Crap?  Yes, I said crap because at this point my holiday cheer was completely lost upon realizing that I had to unpack said boxes and figure out where the heck I was gonna put all this crap stuff.

I pulled myself up off the floor and headed for the wine bar to pour myself a glass of holiday cheer to help get the creative juices flowing.  When what to my wondering eyes did appear but a vison of santa and little tiny reindeers!  I immediately ran to my boxes and began my search when out like a flash these deer did appear!

And shorly thereafter, santa himself...

And what room would be complete without a Christmas tree...

And with it being a "wine bar" it only seemed fitting to use corks as "ornaments"

And from there the room just seemed to complete itself!
Whew!  One bottle of wine room down and six more to go!  Oh deer!

So what area did you choose to decorate first this year?

Linking this up to the following parties...go check them out!

Start "wine"ing!

The holder of the wine

It started like this.  Several months ago I got a wild hair across my butt (for those of you that know me, you know how unusual this is…NOT) and on a whim decided to tear apart my wine bar and redesign it.  This involved some ripping out walls holes in our walls.  Nothing major, mind you. It only created a gapping small hole in the middle of our home…not leading to the outside or anything.  No big deal.  We can live with it.  But while the renovation was going on I stumbled across some pretty awesome hooks at Pottery Barn (squeeeal).  You can find them here for only $10.00 a piece.  10 Bucks at Pottery Barn is unheard of!

Well, as you can imagine, I feel in LUV!  This was a serious kind of love…it was an instant attraction, love at first side kind of love.  The kind that is so overwhelming that you MUST act upon it immediately.  So I did what any rational person would do, I BOUGHT ME SOME!  Not just one, but TWO!  So bold I am!  That sounded a little like Yoda…go ahead, you can say it in his voice!  Its ok, we won’t laugh.

I was filled with glee the day they arrived. My heart literally fluttered in excitement!  Yippee it screamed out!  I grabbed them and ran to the wine bar and held them up to the wall that they were to be hung upon.  My hands were shaking I was so excited! (not really but it adds to the anticipation doncha think?)  Only to be disappointed.  They added NOTHING to the room.  They looked so tiny albeit a bit puny all alone on the pale grey wall.  Sadness ensued.  What shall I do?  I love these hooks.  I can not part with them.  They need me..I NEED them!  And then it hits me!  I have a few of these lovely pallets leftover from the bar counter we Mr. AKM built.

I cut them down to roughly 12” each and after a bit of sanding, then some more sand, and a touch more sanding.  By now I am wondering WHY I couldn’t just be a normal person and go buy myself a piece of wood! But I press on!  Cuz I’m determined like that...I’m no quitter!  I wipe all the wood down to remove the saw dust and apply two coats of my all time FAVORITE stain – Minwax Dark Walnut!  It is the only color I ever use.  It’s the best EVER!  Who’s with me here?  Lets just take a minute to look over this awesome can of Dark Walnut lusciousness shall we?

Then I attached them together with a couple of metal brackets that Mr. AKM had lying around in the garage. Screwed on my top wine hook then attached the second hook and WAH-LAH!  Here is what the end result was.  (Insert oooohhhs and aaahhhhs here).

Aren’t they just awesome!  Seriously…I heart them BIG TIME!  I love the contrast of the dark wood against the pale walls and all the white trim.  SWOON !  (I know the color is off but that is becuase it is more of a wine closet then bar...not easy to photogragh).  Now here is some picture love for you.  Go ahead and  oooohhh and aaahhhh to your hearts content.

This tray, that I coincidentally also purchased from Pottery Barn, was my inspiration for the entire bar.  I loved the dark wood and the metal handles.

I bought this bottle of wine for the cute red shoe and it’s ended up being one of my all time favs!  Not that I drink much wine.  Don’t be looking at all the corks and judging.  I see that look of doubt in your eyes!  It took me 10 years to save all those…and my name is really Angelina Jolie!  You believe me right?

So tell me what you think.  Do you like them?  Yea ya do!  Now go get yourself some wine hooks and go to town!  And heres one last shot for the road....

Touches of Halloween

For those of you just joining in, my name is Angi, and I have a OCD  mild addiction to Halloween, candy corn and brownies.  I just can't help myself.  There is something about all the pumpkins and the bats and the spiders and the sweet, yummy goodness of the candy corn...the yellow, orange and white of it all...the sparkly, glittery decorations the...Oh My!  I could go on and on.  But I won't.

Instead I will show you my favorite little room in my house...the wine bar.  Could it be because it is the keeper of all my wonderful bottles of wine?  Perhaps...or maybe due to the fact that I just completely rennovated this room bringing it from the 1970's to the 21st century??? I mean seriously, you will die when you see the before and afters of this room...but that is a whole other post I will be sharing with you :)

So back to Halloween and decorating.  Its difficult to get some good photos of this room since it is, well, a bar.  But here goes...

Notice all the little spiders hanging out in there?  Maybe this is a better view...
Aren't they cute?  The pictures don't do them justice but they are all sparkly against the purple lights.
I added some of my glittered pumpkins to really ramp up the sparkle factor.

Here is a close up of it all...I'm not sure why the color is off on this picture.  Oh well...it adds to the ghoulish effect...right?  Yea, we'll just say it was on purpose :)
Look!  My trick or treat subway art found a home!  Looks like the spider likes it.
And there you have it folks!  My little corner of Halloween for today.  Do you like it?  Tell me what you think of it.  Now I'm gonna excuse my self to go munch on a bag of candy corn!

Toodles!
